EXAM REQUIREMENTS

Maryland Exam Requirements
Resident - Individual Producer

As a condition of initial licensure and to be eligible to take the required qualifying examination, resident individuals must comply with the necessary pre-licensing education.

An applicant for a
life and health license must meet one of the following criteria:

       1. Satisfactory completion of a 60-hour study course given by an
           approved/recognized school or course provider; or
       2. One year employment by an insurer or producer;
       3. Pre-licensing education is waived if previously licensed in another state or jurisdiction.

A+ Life & Health Training is a Maryland Insurance Administration (MIA) approved/recognized provider offering a 60-hour study course with 8 hours (1 class day) or 16 hours (2 class days) of classroom instruction and the balance via self study.

A+ Life & Health Training strongly recommends a minimum of two days (16 hours) classroom training for students who have never held a life and health license. This training satisfies the MIA requirement and is adequate to cover all aspects of the exam. The remaining 44 hours is self-study using the notes and materials provided in class and includes hundreds of practice exercises. Over 90% of students completing this curriculum pass the exam on their first attempt. Students who desire additional instructor time outside of class combined with computer-based instruction should sign-up for the "two day plus follow-up" (excursion) curriculum.

A+ Life & Health Training provides an abbreviated one day (8 hour) classroom training seminar for students who have previously held a life and health license and need to re-take the Maryland exam. Students must also have the motivation and proclivity for intensive self-study as in-depth explanations of the test material is not possible in this fast paced review.

District of Columbia Exam Requirements

Effective March 1, 2007, D.C. no longer requires a mandatory 40 hours of pre-licensing course instruction. The A+ curriculum is offered to students who prefer classroom training.
